On 8 June 2026, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), the German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI), and the Bavarian Data Protection Commissioner (BayLfD) are organising a high-level debate on the European Commission’s Omnibus proposals and their implications for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the broader EU digital regulatory framework. The event is kindly hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union.

When: 8 June 2026, 18:30 to 20:30 (accreditation opens at 18:00), followed by a reception
Where: Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, Brussels

The event will provide a forum for an informed and forward-looking exchange on the European Commission’s Omnibus proposals. These proposals introduce specific adjustments affecting various elements of the EU digital acquis, including aspects of the GDPR and the AI Act. Their objective is to simplify compliance and reduce administrative burdens, while maintaining a high level of fundamental rights protection.

The discussion will explore key questions concerning legal certainty, regulatory coherence, the preservation of the GDPR’s level of protection, and how to further strengthen the protection of fundamental rights, innovation and competitiveness within the Union.

The high-level debate will gather representatives from the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), national and regional data protection authorities, national administrations, the private sector, academia and civil society.

Further details on the programme and registration process will be available soon.
