The Italian Data Protection Authority has imposed a fine of 2.8 million euros on UniCredit Bank for data breach

On February 8, 2024, the Italian Data Protection Authority  has imposed a fine of 2.8 million euros on UniCredit Bank for data breach.

The company responsible for carrying out the safety tests has also been fined of  800 thousand euros.

According to the Italian Data Protection Authority,  Banks must adopt all the necessary technical-organizational and security measures to prevent their customers' data from being illicitly stolen. 

The DPA sanctioned UniCredit bank for a violation of personal data (data breach) which occurred in 2018, which involved thousands of customers and former customers.
