Private videos - The Italian Data Protection Authority warns CamHub: no to the disclosure of images stolen from italians' homes

15 october 2025

The collection and subsequent disclosure of videos unlawfully obtained from cameras located in private places in Italy is an infringement of European and national privacy regulations.

The Italian Data Protection Authority has expressed this position in an urgent warning issued to the US company ICF Technology, which runs the CamHub website.

The website, which is currently unavailable in Italy, offers free or paid video streaming services with sexually explicit content, also through specific chat rooms.

The Authority's warning became necessary following major incidents reported by the media concerning the unauthorised disclosure of videos from private cameras.

The Authority warned the company that reactivating the website could constitute unlawful processing of personal data, as the latter would be carried out without the specific consent of the data subjects and due to the added seriousness arising from the sensitive nature of the images collected and disclosed.

The Authority reiterates that the disclosure of private and intimate content is likely to cause serious and irreparable harm to the individuals involved and reserves the right to take any further measures deemed appropriate following the outcome of the ongoing fact-finding activity.
